3
4 DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED REMEDIATION SYSTEM
This section presents the proposed SVE/AS system for containing and remediating
petroleum hydrocarbons at the site.
4.1 Remediation System Design
Pinnacle will design a soil vapor extraction and air sparge system that will consist of two
soil vapor extraction wells and one air sparge well located on the site near S-l. The
purpose of the system is to remediate petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil and
groundwater beneath the site.
4.1.1 Location
The SVE/AS system will be installed in a planter area adjacent to the wells, pump islands
. and tank complex. Figure 4 presents the proposed location for the system.
4.1.2 Assumed (Estimated) Flow Rates
The following table summarizes the results of the soil vapor extraction test conducted by
Western Geo-Engineers (WEGE) on March 14, 1995. The SVE test was performed on
wells S-1, S-2, MW-4 and MW-8. The pilot test results were reported in a report titled
"Results of the Pilot Test for Vapor Extraction" dated April 17, 1995.
Applied Vacuum Induced Flow Rate Estimated ROI Analytical Results Extraction
(TPHG) Well
9 in. wc2 40 cfm 75 feet 67 Mg/14MW-8
ROI = Radius of influence
z in. we = inches of water column
3 cfm = cubic feet per minute
4 mg/l = milligram per liter
4-1
ESJ:\E:\USA100651REPOR7'S10065P201.DOC-9811sg:1 Rev.0,1126199
20A41-007.001
