Based on the WEGE data, which will be confirmed during an air sparge and SVE pilot
test, the system proposed will be sized at approximately 100 cfm capacity.
4.1.3 System Overview
Pinnacle_proposes to-connect to existing groundwater monitoring wells S-1, and S-2. In
addit'on, an air sparge well ,will be installed adjacent to S-1 to evaluate the effectiveness
of air sparging at the site. Based on the data provided in the WEGE SVE pilot test, air
sparging should be effective at addressing the dissolved phase hydrocarbons at the site.
The soil vapor extraction and air sparge wells will be connected to the SVE/AS systems
via subsurface conveyance piping to the treatment system compound. The compound
will consist of piping manifolds, SVE/AS equipment, and electrical equipment.
The proposed treatment system will consist of a catalytic oxidizer unit capable of
approximately 100 cubic feet per minute of air flow and a destruction removal efficiency
greater than 95%.
4.2 Equipment
• The remediation system will utilize the equipment discussed in section 4.1.3. The
equipment proposed is all standard equipment for the industry and will provide long term
operation for the system. The total cost of the equipment necessary for completing the
system is estimated at $50,000 not including the cost of construction.
4.3 System Operation and Performance Evaluation
The system is proposed to operate twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year. The
extracted soil vapor will be treated and discharged to the atmosphere under a permit to
operate to be issued by S.IVAPCD. The operational performance of the system will be
monitored on a monthly basis with soil vapor samples collected from the influent, and
effluent of the system. The status of the system will be reported in the quarterly
groundwater monitoring and operation and maintenance report.
4.4 Implementation Schedule
The proposed implementation schedule for installing the SVE/AS system is presented in
Figure 5. However, the permit application process may take several weeks to accomplish
and the actual start date of the system will depend upon the receipt of the authority to
4-2
k51:1E:1USA100651REPORTS10065P201.DOC-98Vsg:1 Rev.0, 1126199
20A41-007.001
