GeologicalTe"esInc.
Soil&Groundwater Investigation Report Page 4
j Marci Property
Project No.701.2
July 24,2002
4.1 Geology and Field Observations
The following section discusses the subjective field observations and geology documented
during this investigation based on the interpretations of the field geologist.
• The site exhibits primarily a clayey geology consisting of clays, sandy clays and
occasional gravelly clays': Sand, sandy silt, silty sand and silt layers are also present in
all of the boreholes drilled during this mobilization.
• In boring MW-7, the sediments ranged from grey-green and grey to brown in color.
Sand layers ranged from very fine to coarse, and sediments occasionally contained
CaCO3 nodules and black organics. Evidence of hydrocarbon (HC) contamination was
present at 30 feet below :grade surface (bgs) in the form of faint odors. A strong HC
4 odor was present at 40 feet bgs, and a free product interface was present at 45.5 feet bgs.
The interface was present'at the bottom of a sand layer and on top of silt. The evidence
of HC, staining and odor,.extended to the boring terminal depth of 70 feet bgs.
• Ind boring MW-8, the sediments were similar to MW-7. There was no evidence of
hydrocarbon (HC) contamination in the boring.
• Boring MW-104 sediments ranged from browns to red-browns to various hues of grey
color. Sand layers ranged from very fine to medium, and sediments occasionally
contained CaCO3 nodules, black organics and iron oxide staining. HC odors were first
noted at 50 — 55 feet bgs. At 60 feet bgs and below there was no evidence of
contamination.
• Boring MW-106 was free.drilled to 75 feet bgs due to its proximity to MW-6. Below 75
feet, sandy soils were first encountered and underlain by silts then clays at 95 feet bgs.
These soils ranged from brown to grey in color and the sands were very fine to very
` coarse in size. No evidence of contamination was noted in samples collected from
below 75 feet bgs
• Groundwater level was approximately 61 feet bgs as measured in well MW-6 on May 8,
2002.
4.2 Analytical Results
The results of the soil sample analytical data are included in Table 1, Appendix A. The
f laboratory data sheets are included in Appendix C.
The analytical results are summarized as follows:
MW-7 g Jq 0
• Laboratory samples were obtained from 5, 55 and 70 feet bgs. All threeAsamples
contained TPH-D at , 12200 and 331 espectively. The 45 and 55 feet bgs
` samples contained_Xylene,but other BTEX components were not detected.
MW-8 eek
• Laboratory samples were obtained from 55 and 70 feet bgs. Neither sample
contained contaminant concentrations above the laboratory reporting limits.
I L
.,: i
