' 11
SIERRA
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Scope of Work
This report presents the results of the subsurface investigation completed by Sierra
Environmental Services (SES) at the proposed site of a new Chevron Service Station, located on
the southeast corner of South Main Street and Mission Ridge Drive in Manteca, California (Figure
1,Appendix A). The purpose of the SES investigation was to drill one soil boring at the site. The
following outlines the scope of work and procedures for this investigation.
1. Research the site history and prepare a site safety plan specific to this
investigation.
2. Conduct an area business survey to identify other potential sources of
hydrocarbons within a two-block radius of the site.
3. Drill one soil boring at the site. Survey soil samples from the boring with an
organic vapor meter(OVM) to determine the presence or absence of volatile organic
compounds in the samples. Analyze two soil samples and one grab ground water
sample from the boring for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline and diesel
(TPH(G&D)J; oil and grease (O&G); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes
(BTEX); pesticides; and herbicides.
4. Report the results.
5. Discuss the results with the client and make recommendations for additional work,
if necessary
1.2 Area Business Survey
An area business survey was conducted to identify properties and businesses within a two-
block radius of the site in order to determine the surrounding land use, and to identify other
potential sources of petroleum hydrocarbons and organic compounds near the site. Properties
and businesses near the site are shown in Figure 2 (Appendix A).
The area business survey consisted of a review of records at both the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department and the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), and
an area reconnaissance. The RWQCB list of Leaking Underground Storage Tank Sites, the
Hazardous Waste and Substances Sites List, and the Expenditure Plan for the Hazardous
Page 2
