6 0 HAZARDS ASSESSMENT <br /> 61 Assessments Required Prior to Commencement of Work <br /> The principal hazards, particularly special or unusual hazards, associated with the <br /> implementation of each project shall be evaluated and identified in the Site-specific Health <br /> and Safety Plan For projects involving handling of, or exposure to, hazardous or toxic <br /> materials, the hazards shall be assessed, where possible, by a person with a minimum of three <br /> years of experience with construction or remediation work with hazards similar to those <br />' anticipated on the subject project For projects involving general construction activities <br /> (trenching, grading, earthwork, deep excavations, tunneling, etc), the hazards shall be <br /> assessed, where possible, by a person with a minimum of three years of experience with <br /> construction work with hazards similar to those anticipated on the subject project <br />'• For work involving hazardous or toxic chemicals for which Level B or a higher level <br /> of personal protective equipment is necessary (see Section 7 0 for definitions), the hazard <br /> assessment, and the specification of personal protective equipment and safe working <br />' procedures, shall be made by a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or a Certified Safety <br /> Professional (CSP) Such personnel are defined as persons that have documented formal <br /> training in occupational safety and health, a sound working knowledge of pertinent state and <br /> federal regulations, and have a minimum of three years of experience in the assessment of <br /> hazards and the preparation of health and safety plans for work involving risks to health and <br /> safety similar to those that apply to the subject project In preparing the hazards assessment, <br /> the CIH or CSP shall consult with professional engineers or other technical specialists as <br /> necessary to properly evaluate and design systems and procedures to mitigate the hazards <br /> that may be encountered under the site-specific conditions <br /> 6-1 REV 4192-EGI <br />' 111 r <br />
