Harlin Knoll <br /> September 23, 1994 <br /> ell Page 2 <br /> Samples collected from the oil supply line and used oil line excavation were analyzed for <br /> ■ Volatile organics by EPA Method 8010, <br /> ■ Total oil and grease by EPA 413 2, <br /> ■ TPH as diesel (fPHd) by EPA Method 8015 (modified), <br /> CAM Metals (EPA 6000 and 7000 series), and <br /> ■ Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and pesticides by EPA Method 8080 <br /> 20 FIELD ACTIVITIES AND RESULTS <br /> The following sections describe methods used to conduct the line removal and sod sampling <br /> procedures . <br /> 2.1 Safety Considerations <br /> Groundwater Technology developed a Site Safety Plan to provide a safe working environment and to <br /> comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulation 29 CFR 1910 120 <br /> This plan addressed specific environmental work-site hazards and presented contingency plans for <br /> site personnel All Groundwater Technology and subcontractor personnel working at the site <br /> reviewed the plan and followed the guidelines <br /> 2 2 Demolition and Removal of the Dispenser Islands and Product Lines <br /> iThree underground storage tanks (UST) containing gasoline, one UST containing used oil, and the <br /> product dispensers were removed in 1987 and 1988 (Figure 1) Recent construction activities <br /> included demolition of the dispenser island canopy, and removal of the former gasoline product Innes <br /> and dispenser islands, six oil supply lines, and one used oil line <br /> Initial demolition activities began on August 4, 1994, and were completed August 12, 1994 Gasoline <br /> product lines ran north-south, parallel to the dispenser islands, and then west toward the former <br /> USTs (Figure 2) The oil supply lines ran south from the former pay booth, and then west to the <br /> Sears Auto Center The used oil line followed the same trench as the supply lines, but continued <br /> toward the west to the former UST location On August 10 through 12, Sears' contractor Norm <br /> Wilson and Sons used a backhoe to uncover the product lines and remove the dispenser islands <br /> The soil directly above the product lines was removed with a shovel to avoid damaging the lines <br /> The excavated sod and pea gravel was stockpiled on site <br /> 1288GAS RPT ❑0� GROUNDWATER <br /> Sears 41288 Stockton ❑�❑ TECHNOLOGY <br />
