OUR
2. A disposable "Sludge Nabber"Tm device, which has a long rod with an attachment at the
end for holding a sample bottle, will be used to collect receiving water samples, enabling
the field personnel to avoid coming in contact with the water, thereby avoiding contacting
the water with sampling gloves.
3. Sampling bottles, liners, caps, and the Sludge Nabbeem will be decontaminated using
Alconox, a laboratory-grade cleaner, and dried prior to collecting water samples.
4. Field personnel have been trained in correct sampling techniques and typically will wear
clean latex gloves when collecting groundwater effluent samples to avoid any potential for
dermal chemical exposure. In this case, samplers will not wear gloves as there is little
chance that the treated groundwater contains chemicals, and thus there is no risk of an
adverse dermal exposure. Special care will be taken to avoid any contact of plastic
materials with the water samples.
5. One equipment blank and one trip blank per sample cooler will be collected and analyzed
for DEPH.
Reporting
Laboratory analytical reports for DEPH will be submitted with the monthly NPDES compliance
reports. Detailed discussions of the analytical results will be included in the semiannual NPDES
reports. A complete summary report on the findings of this proposed study will be submitted by the
end of the fourth quarter of 2007.
Please call either of the undersigned at (510) 652-4500 with your questions and comments.
Sincerely,

Lucas, st , P.G.
