require extensive development after installation since drilling muds are
not used. Turbidity, however, will be used to assess water quality before
sample collection. Upon development completion, water levels using an
electronic water level indicator will be taken.
Four monitoring wells (MW-1,MW-3 through MW-5) will be purged and
sampled using a portable electric submersible pump, peristaltic Pump or
PVC bailer. MW-2 will be used for water level measurements only. The
low stress techniques will include slow placement and removal of bailers
or tubing within the monitoring well screen. Well purging will continue
until the removal of three pore volumes and the stabilization of pH,
conductivity and temperature has occurred within 10% of previous
reading. Water will be discharged onto the ground since hazardous
components have not previously been found in ground water.
Samples will be placed in a cooler and delivered for analysis to the
laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation. Methods of analysis
will include the monitoring parameters and frequency are outlined and
will comply with the MRP as part of the final DWRs.
The parameters to be collected include:
• Elevation
• Nitrate as Nitrogen
• Total Dissolved Solids
• Volatile Dissolved Solids
• pH
• Standard Minerals (calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, sulfate,
allcahnity series, and hardness).
California Concentrates Monitoring Well Work Plan
Issued: June 8,2001
Revision 1
JHC Project No.493-01
6
