• (5) Hazardous waste is staged for transport in designated area, <br /> considering compatibility of the materials. <br /> (6) Hazardous waste disposal contract includes instructions to <br /> handlers, haulers, and receiving TSD facility. In addition, block 15 of the <br /> Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest includes special handling instructions and <br /> additional information. DRMO Contracting Officer' s Representative along with <br /> Sharpe' s HWF manager oversee the contractor waste handling procedures. <br /> b. Protection from exposure to, or contamination with, hazardous wastes. <br /> All persons working in an area where they may become exposed to hazardous <br /> wastes must wear protective clothing. Chemically impervious boots are <br /> provided for foot protection. Employees required to handle liquids other <br /> than water will be provided with gloves impervious to the liquid being used. <br /> The gloves will be approximately elbow length to prevent liquid from entering <br /> the top of the glove. When gloves are used, the gloves must be water tested <br /> for leaks prior to actually handling of chemicals. <br /> Employees who work where their clothing may become wet or contaminated <br /> will be provided with aprons or acid resistant clothing. When aprons are <br /> used, the apron must extend below the top of the, boot to prevent liquid from <br /> entering the boot. <br /> Where there is a danger of splashing injurious corrosive materials/ <br /> liquids, employees will be required to wear either approved chemical goggles <br /> • or an effective face shield. <br /> In the event of contact to the face, the employee is instructed to go to <br /> the nearest eye wash or any source of potable water and rinse off the <br /> hazardous liquid. In the event of contact to the body, the employee is <br /> instructed to go to the nearest safety shower or any source of potable water <br /> and rinse off the hazardous liquids for a minimum of 15 minutes. Additional <br /> medical attention is available through the Depot Health Clinic for any <br /> emergencies. <br /> The types of wastes which are produced in sufficient quantities to <br /> warrant specific procedures for sampling and/or handling are: <br /> PCB Contaminated Materials (Annex M, PCB Management Plan) . <br /> Industrial Battery Shop (operating procedure titled Servicing <br /> Industrial Batteries) . <br /> Materials containing asbestos (Annex N - operating procedure titled <br /> Installation, Removal and Disposal of Materials Containing Asbestos and <br /> Controlling Asbestos Waste, and Annex L - Asbestos Management Plan. <br /> All operational procedures for handling hazardous materials and wastes, <br /> including those above, are contained in Annex M. <br /> • VIII-12 <br />
