1
• In addition, there will be developed at least one drum designated as a
"lab-pack". The purpose of these drums is to store compatible, small
quantity volumes of hazardous waste until sufficient volume has accumulated
to justify shipment. Additionally, there is a benefit of reducing the risk
of spillage when small , breakable containers ,are not properly managed. The
lab-pack will follow the general placement procedures noted in Section VI to
ensure compatibility. Vermiculite or equivalent absorbent, shock resistant
material will be used between and around items placed in the lab-pack.
These procedures mainly deal with proper personnel protection such as
protective clothing, safety procedures, such as self-contained breathing
apparatus for PCB sampling, and operating procedures, such as asbestos site
preparation and waste sealing. Following the procedure for sampling PCB is a
list of current SHAD employees who are responsible for collecting PCB samples
(Table VIII-1) .
Asbestos waste, when generated per the procedures in Attachment VIII-4,
is placed in double plastic bags and stored in wooden boxes outside Building
605. When a sufficient quantity has accumulated for disposal , a contractor
is hired to remove the waste and dispose of it in an environmentally and
regulatorily acceptable manner.
TABLE VIII-1
• EMPLOYEES RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING PCB SAMPLES
STAFF
High Voltage Electricial (Lineman)
Electrician
Electrical Foreman
Operations Division
Hazardous Waste Facility Operators
VIII-13
•
