I
HEALTH SERCES
PUBLIC Pa,N
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Ernest M. Fujimoto, M. D., M.P.H., Acting Health Officer
304 E. Weber Ave., Third Floor • P. O. Box 388 • Stockton, CA 95201-0388
209/468-34200
3 u
Mr. KEN GILLIES
GILLIES TRUCKING
PO BOX 8303
STOCKTON CA 95208
RE: Gillies Trucking SITE CODE: 1703
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) has reviewed the October 31, 1996 Problem Assessment Report
and the December 28, 1996 quarterly monitoring report prepared by Upgradient
Environmental Consultants for the above referenced site.
PHS/EHD has determined that the investigation phase is complete. Currently
available data indicates that the lateral and vertical extent of the soil and
groundwater plumes have been defined. The groundwater plume boundary has
been roughly defined as the area bounded by GT-5, GT-6 and GT-9 and GT-2.
Two domestic wells are located approximately 86 feet north of the plume (Gillies
domestic well) and 111 feet east of the plume (Barbot domestic well). Both wells
appear to be down gradient of the plume.
Water samples from the drinking water wells do not indicate the presence of
petroleum hydrocarbons. The well log of the domestic well installed at the Barbot
property indicates that the depth of the well seal is to 115 feet and reports a clay
layer from 86 to 124 feet. Although it appears to provide some protection to this
drinking water well, the clay layer at the Barbot property is probably
discontinuous. The construction of the domestic well at the Gillies site is
unknown. There is a potential for these two wells to become impacted in the near
future.
The amount of diesel in the soil plume is estimated to be approximately 2500
gallons. The amount of gasoline and benzene was not calculated. The residual
soil contamination may add to the load of hydrocarbons in the groundwater
plume, especially considering the sandy soil beneath the site. An investigation of
the amount of hydrocarbon degrading bacteria indicates that natural attenuation
is not occurring at a measurable rate.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
