' Remediation Plan <br /> Cleanup and Abatement Order No 5-00-707 EAI Project No 1232 <br /> 2 0 RECENT ASSESSMENT WORK AND EVENTS <br /> 21 Supplemental Investigation Report and Problem Assessment Report <br />' On October 13, 2000, EAI, on behalf of Wards and Unocal submitted to the RWQCB a report <br /> entitled "Supplemental Investigat>on Report, Problem Assessment Report and Work Plan" <br /> (SIR/PAR Report) (see EAI, 2000A) The SIR/PAR Report <br /> • Summarized existing hydrogeological conditions relatcd to the Waids and Unocal sites <br /> • Assessed the extent of petroleum hydrocarbon impact at the Wards and Unocal sites <br />' • Proposed additional work to define the extent of impact at the Unocal site and to <br /> investigate the lateral and vertical extent of contamination from the Unocal and Wards <br /> sites towards to RIW <br />' On October 27, 2000, the RWQCB forwarded a letter approving only the Cone Penetrometer <br /> Test (CPT) soundings around the RIW to provide data on the lateral and vertical extent of <br /> contamination from Unocal and Wards towards to RIW, with the understanding that the <br /> Information obtained from completing the CPT work would be used to determine additional <br /> well locations on the Unocal and Wards sites required to define the vertical extent of ground <br />' water impact beneath these two sites <br /> 2.2 CPT Investigation and Work Plan <br /> On December 27 2000 EAI on behalf of Wards and n <br /> > Unocal submitted to the RWQCB a <br /> report entitled "Results of CPT Investigation and Work Plan (CPT Report) (see EAI, 2000B) <br />' The CPT Report presents <br /> o The results of the CPT work completed to define the lateral and vertical extent of <br /> contamination around the RIW <br />' o Proposed well locations on the Unocal and Wards sites to define the vertical extent of <br /> impact beneath these two sites, and a deep well near the RIW for future ground water <br /> monitoring purposes <br />' On January 9, 2001, the RWQCB forwarded a letter approving the CPT Report, I e , proposed <br /> well locations <br /> e2.3 Wards Bankruptcy <br />' In December 2000, Wards filed for bankruptcy and the remedial system located on the Wards <br /> site (air sparging coupled with vapor extraction) Is deactivated The remedial syste>n on the <br /> Wards site was put pito operation in November 1999 and removed over 8,200 pounds of <br /> hydrocarbons prior to being deactivated in December 2000 <br /> The Wards remedial system was reactivated on June 21, 2001 <br /> BS 1232P RAP App -2- <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT,ENC <br />
