* All remaining piping and drop tube may be <br />disconnected/removed from the tank. <br />* Two openings at opposite ends of the tank shall be <br />used for the inerting procedure; all other openings <br />shall be sealed. <br />* A flammable vapor detection device that has been <br />calibrated within the past 6 months shall be on the <br />job site prior to excavation or removal. <br />* I Tanks shall be purged of flammable vapor in <br />,o3 -'accordance with NFPA guidelines. It shall be the <br />Telic Engineering Corporation's responsibility to <br />demonstrate to the fire inspector, upon arrival, <br />that the vapor concentration inside the tank is not <br />more than 100 of the lower explosive line (L.E.L.) <br />of the product previously in the tank. Atmosphere <br />inside the tank shall be checked at the top and the <br />bottom. An oxygen measuring device may also be used <br />to ensure that the tank has been inerted. An oxygen <br />reading of below 13% will be required prior to <br />removal. <br />* It is necessary that the vapors be purged prior to <br />arrival of the fire inspector. Each tank will be <br />allotted a maximum of 1 hour for removal and loading <br />for transport. <br />* Openings are to be closed using a pressure -vacuum <br />relief device or other NFPA approved device. <br />* Tanks are to be lifted using proper equipment. It <br />will be the fire inspector's responsibility to stop <br />any operation the inspector believes to be unsafe. <br />Tanks shall not be dragged at any time. Only <br />nonsparking tools may be used to clean exterior of <br />tank. <br />* Immediately transport tanks from site to an approved <br />location. <br />* Underground waste oil tanks may be opened on site <br />to be triple rinsed provided the vapor concentration <br />is below 100 of the L.E.L. All liquid is to be <br />disposed of under manifest as hazardous waste. <br />* It shall be the contractor's responsibility to <br />ensure that the excavation site is secured prior to <br />his departure. <br />C. REMOVAL - LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SHALL: <br />* Inspect the tank after its removal from the <br />excavation for evidence of leaks or corrosion. <br />* Inspect the excavation of preliminary evaluation of <br />product released or soil contamination. <br />* Direct the collection of soil samples from the <br />excavation. <br />* Initiate any required clean-up action. <br />
