GRO
t Lopez Property (9647-0770)
January 1997
hydrocarbons identified as gasoline (TPH-g) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes
(BTEX}. The analytical results indicated that a release of petroleum hydrocarbons had occurred..
Adjacent to and south of the property is a Tri-Valley Growers canning facility. The canning
facility includes former underground storage tanks (USTs) and a forklift shop within 50 feet of the
southern site boundary. A group w ter pumping and remediation program was initiated at this site in
1991. A case closure request for thji.s site was submitted in 1995.
In November 1994, three soil borings were drilled and sampled at the subject site by RAH
Environmental, Inc. (Figure 2). Soil boring SBA was advanced at the former UST location to evaluate
the vertical extent of the release. Chemical analysis of soil samples collected from soil boring SBA
'vindicated that petroleum hydrocarbons were present below the water table. Ground water samples
were collected through hollow-stem augers at the location of the borings and analyzed for the presence
of TPH-g and BTEX. The analytical results indicated the, greatest concentrations were detected at the
location of SBA On the basis of these results, RAH Environmental, Inc., concluded that the source of
the, petroleum hydrocarbons found in soil boring SBA most probably came from the former UST on
the Lopez property.
In February 1996, Fugro supervised the advancement of five drill holes (MW-1, MW-2,
MW-3, SB-Al, and S13-A2) at the locations illustrated on Figure 2. The drill holes were advanced to
approximate depths ranging from 20.5 to 35.5 feet. The highest TPH-g concentrations in soil were
identified at 5,500 mg(kg in drill hole SB-A2 at a depth of 16 feet. Fugro has since conducted two
quarterly ground water monitoring events. The results of the findings has not detected the presence of
TPH g nor BTEX in ground water.
Scope of Services
Task 1 -Preparation of Technical Work Plan,Project Management and Permitting
Fugro will prepare and submit a technical work plan and site health & safety plan to the San
Joaquin County PHS/EHD for its approval prior to initiating field activities. The work plan will
describe sample collection procedures, sample locations, frequency of sampling and sample analysis. In
addition, we will obtain the necessary permits for exploratory drill holes from the county.
Task 2 -Drinking Water Well Survey
Fugro will conduct a drinking water well survey for wells located within a 2000-foot radius of
the subject property. Fugro will contact the California Department of Water Resources and the local
municipal water district to obtain information regarding the presence of drinking water wells within the f
specified search distance.
Task 3-Field Activities
To further define the vertical. extent of soil and ground water contaminants, Fugro will oversee
the advancement of one drill hole in the vicinity of the removed underground storage tank (refer to
,-.96470774.PH2 2
