smslow &I
02_ffl011 EM
y
Tri-Valley Growers November 9, 1987
r Project No. 1 M2G Page 3-1
SECTION 3.0
j +
OEM QUAL GEOL921A D Hy0801
t
The project site lies at the southern end of the Sacramento Valley, part of
po
the large northwest trending asymmetric structural trough termed the
Central Valley of California. The Sacramento Valley contains a thick
sequence of sediments which, in. ,r lines, reach a depth of 10 miles. These
sediments range in
k;
g geologic age from Jurassic (205 million years before
present) to Holocene (present time) and include both marine and continental
I
rocks and deposits (Page, 1986)
The project site is located on Holocene river deposits that have been
1
produced by the nearby Mokelumne River and its ancestor channels.
According to the California Department of Water Resources (1978, p. 33)
' these river deposits attain a maximum thickness of approximately 115 feet
»:
and are the most permeable deposits in the Sacramento Valley.
r = This site is located approximately one-half mile west of the Mokelumne
i
River. The river in this location flows generally to the northwest and is
4 subject to periodic flooding. In recent years, the project site was flooded
when the river overflowed its banks (personal communication with Mr. Juan
r =
Quijano). The regional groundwater flow if generally towards the Mokelumne
- - -- River to the north; however; the flow is also surmised to be affected by .ocal
` pumping wells and possible tidal influence.
r
ee
