S
water; such equipment to be a water meter. To measure the elevation of i
the water level in the well, an air test line complete with calibrated gauge f
activated by compressed air shall be furnished by the Contractor.
Unless otherwise permitted, the air line shall be securely fastened to the i
pumping unit and shall terminate approximately at the maximum desired
i
pumping
depth but shall in no case be nearer than two feet to the end of i
the suction pipe.
5. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, fuel and incidental materials
required for the completion and duration of the test as specified below.
C. Testing - --
1. Step Test: To be run at the rates of production and duration of times as
directed by the Engineer. A minimum of four tests of 4-hour durationq {r
shall be performed, each at a consecutively higher rate than the l
previous. The pumping rates shall be 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, and 4,000
gpm, unless the Engineer approves other rates recommended by the
Contractor.
2. Continuous Test: After the step test and a 24-hour recovery period, the
testing of the well shall proceed in a single continuous uninterrupted
operation for a 24-hour period. The rate for the 24-hour test shatl be the v
design rate for the well, unless another rate is specified by the Engineer
on the basis of the step test. Should the testing period cease at any
time or for any reason before the 24-hour testing period is complete, the
testing shall begin again and proceed for a continuous 24-hour period at
no additional cost to the City. If stability has not been achieved after the
24-hour continuous test, an additional 24-hour test shall be performed,
and shall be paid for with a Contract Change Order.
D. Procedure:
1. The conditions that must be achieved by the end of the development and
testing-period are:
a. Sand production not more than 5 parts per million.
Turbidity of 5 Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU) maximum.
c. Quantity of gravel placed in the annular space shall be at least equal
to the calculated volume of the annular space.
d. No further settling of the gravel envelope. i
2. Prior to starting each pumping test, the static water level in the well shall `
be determined. The pump shall be started and operated, at each
successive rate, without stopping until the water level in the well
stabilizes and then continuously for a minimum period of time designated
by the Engineer. t
3. During all test procedures measurements shall be taken to determine the
water level in the well and the rate of pumping. These measurements N jIII`
shall be obtained from the Production Well every 60 seconds for the first L
10 minutes of each test, every two minutes for the next 10 minutes, Id
every five minutes for the next 40 minutes, every 15 minutes for the next no vc.
r
Division III-29
