Should contaminated
groundwater be encountered during the excavation, the Contractor shall notify the
' Engineer immediately, and no contaminated water shall be discharged into the City's
storm drain system.
The Contractor shall at all times have on the project site sufficient pumping equipment
for immediate use, including standby pumps for use in case other pumps become
inoperable. Dewatering operations must continue such that the groundwater is at least
1 foot below the level of the compaction effort at all times. No compaction of saturated
materials will be allowed.
Backfillinq_of Imported Material: Backfill material and installation shall conform to the
requirements of the City's Standard Plan No. 501. In case unsuitable or unstable
material is encountered during excavation, the Contractor shall immediately notify the
Engineer. Unsuitable material, as determined by the Engineer, shall be removed to a
maximum depth of three feet (3) under the proposed subgrade, and replaced with an
approved subbase material compacted at its optimum moisture content to at least 90%
relative compaction .
Compaction: Observations and soil density tests shall be carried on during grading to
assist the Contractor in obtaining the required degree of compaction and the proper
moisture content. Where compaction is less than required, additional compactive effort
shall be made with adjustment of the moisture content as necessary until the specified
compaction is obtained, at Contractor's own expense, and to the satisfaction of the
Engineer. Compaction of backfill materials by flooding, ponding or jetting will not be
permitted.
Grading: Except where otherwise stated or shown in the project specifications or plans,
the Contractor shall restore the finish grade to the original contours and drainage
patterns. The Engineer shall be notified at least 48 hours prior to any grading operation.
w Removal and Disposal of any Unsuitable Material: The Contractor shall dispose of any
unsuitable material encountered during excavation, without regard to classification, that
would interfere with the proper construction of the required work.
MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
.
