SVE Well Test Analysis
The measurements collected during the tests will be compared to pre-vapor extraction
measurements and used to evaluate the effectiveness of the system, the optimum rate at which air
is to be extracted by the vapor extraction system, and radius of influence for optimizing
additional SVE well placement, if needed. The radius of influence testing may also yield
information regarding an anisotropic flow in the vadose zone and allow analysis of the percentage
of flow originating in the extraction zone versus the adjacent, upper(or lower) zone.
For the reduction of the test well radius of influence data,the log of the vacuum response versus the
distance from the extraction well should produce a nearly straight line for each of the test vacuums.
Where the straight line intersects an arbitrary vacuum influence reference (generally 0.1 inch of
water vacuum), this distance is considered the radius of influence at the particular operating
condition.
Raw data collected during pilot testing (i.e., flow rates and vacuums) as well as laboratory
analytical data will be tabulated and presented in the report. System curves will be developed for
various step-test configurations by plotting flow rate measurements against test well
vacuums. These curves will provide important information in determining the target vacuums for
constant rate SVE testing. At a minimum, the following data analysis will be performed:
• Tables and graphic representations of air flow versus extraction pressures for each test
sequence to assist in designing SVE blower and piping;
• Calculations of air permeabilities;
• Plan view of the estimated area of influence for each of the constant rate extraction scenarios;
• Vacuum pressure in the observation wells vs. distance from test well(s);
• Extracted vapor analysis (total VOCs) vs. time; and
• Tables and graphic representations of VOC mass removal rates to estimate cleanup times,as
appropriate.
M ain\D:AEnvironmentaI\LN CV\10152007.wpd 56
