REMEDIAL ACTION TASKS DESCRIPTION <br /> Task 1- Site Preparation <br /> A 10 mil reinforced polyethylene sheet will be spread on the ground at the location of the <br /> landfarm stockpile and six inches of clean, sandy soil will be spread over this sheet to act <br /> as a base and to prevent damage to the visqueen It is anticipated the landfarm stockpile <br /> site will be located where hydrocarbon impacted soil is currently stockpiled (Exhibit 2) <br /> Additional excavated hydrocarbon impacted soil will then be placed on the stockpile A <br /> berm will be constructed surrounding the bioremediation site to prevent uncontrolled <br /> runoff from rainfall and unauthorized vehicle traffic <br /> Underground utilities and other subsurface lines will be identified by metal or pipe <br /> detector and direct investigation techniques (exposure by digging) to minimize dig-in <br /> damage during soil excavation <br /> Task 2- Soil Excavation and Stockpiling <br /> An excavator with a 4-cubic yard bucket will be used to selectively excavate the <br /> hydrocarbon impacted soil immediately adjacent to the concrete tank to a depth of about <br /> 20 feet or base of impacted soil Impacted soil surrounding the tank left if place because <br /> of the proximity of the brick building is estimated to be 50 cubic yards or less and that <br /> direct inspection of the impacted soil will allow detailed inspection and sampling (Exhibits <br /> 5 to 7) A hand auger will be used to drill horizontal or inclined borings to obtain soil <br /> samples from this remaining impacted soil in order to characterize it A map showing soil <br /> that is anticipated to be removed is depicted in Exhibit 8 <br /> The excavation will be backfilled using clean pea-gravel that will compact to approximately <br /> 90% or more of the former field soil density The excavation surface will be resurfaced <br /> with asphalt or other impermeable material to prevent surface water from migrating <br /> downward <br /> i <br /> Page 4 <br />
