all times . When directed , temporary drains and drainage <br /> ditches shall be installed to intercept or divert surface <br /> water which may affect the prosecution of the work. <br /> B. If at the time of excavation it is not possible to place any <br /> material in its proper section of the permanent structure, <br /> it shall be stockpiled in approved areas for later use . No <br /> extras will be considered for the stockpiling or double <br /> handling of excavated material. <br /> C. All fill slopes shall be compacted by slope rolling and <br /> triming , or shall be overfilled and trimmed back to planned <br /> grade , to expose a firm , smooth surface free of loose <br /> material. <br /> 3 . 09 DRAINAGE CHANNELS <br /> Construct collection channels, as shown. Trim slopes neatly <br /> to line. Final flow line grade shall be uniform to provide <br /> free drainage without puddling. <br /> 3 . 10 TESTING <br /> A. As part of the inspection program, the engineer will take <br /> samples and perform moisture content, gradation, compaction, <br /> and density tests during placement of backfill materials to <br /> check compliance with these Specifications. The Contractor <br /> shall remove surface material at locations designated by the <br /> Engineer and provide such assistance as necessary for <br /> sampling and testing by the engineer and his <br /> representatives. <br /> B. Unless otherwise specified, the following test methods shall <br /> be used: <br /> Tests Caltrans or ASTM Test Method Number <br /> Maximum Density <br /> and Optimum Moisture CTM 216 <br /> Relative Compaction D-1556-64 or D-2992-71 <br /> and D-3017-72 <br /> Sand Equivalent CTM 217 <br /> Sieve Analysis D-422 <br /> Liquid Limit D-423-66 <br /> Plastic Limit and <br /> Plasticity Index D-424-59 <br /> EARTHWORK <br /> 02200-9 <br />
