Denali shall contact SJCEDH to notify of the day of
sampling.
On the day of sampling, the Denali Geologist will lead a "tail gate" safety meeting with
the drilling contractor to review details of the Health & Safety Plan. All field sampling
equipment will be cleaned with a biodegradable detergent and triple rinsed with tap
water prior to use.
Soil Sampling
The mobile GeoProbe sampling rig will be positioned over the marked locations shown
on Figure 2- Sample Location Plan. Shallow soil samples indicated by the letter "A" will
be collected over most of the site and composited as a 2-point composite sample or a 4-
point composite sample in the shed and outside equipment storage areas. Slant drilling
into shed areas is anticipated due to low overhead clearance. Shallow and deep
discrete samples will be collected at the location indicated by the letter "B". Deep
discrete soil samples and groundwater grab samples will be collected at the three septic
tank areas indicated by the letter "C".
A macro-core barrel sampler equipped with a sand-catcher tip will be used to collect
continuous undisturbed soil samples over four-foot drive intervals. Soil samples will be
sub-sampled from the drive tube at depths of 1-2 feet below ground surface (bgs) and
6-7 feet bgs. Groundwater is anticipated to occur at a depth of 4 to 6 feet.
The soils will be logged by a California Professional Geologist according to the Unified
Soil Classification System (ASTM-2488 visual). A photoicnization detector will be used
to test soils for the presence of volatile organic compounds. The soil samples will be
capped, labeled and placed in an ice-chest in preparation for transport under chain-of-
custody to McCampbell Laboratory, a State Certified Laboratory located in Pacheco,
California.
Groundwater Grab Sample
At three locations (C1, C2 and C3), a groundwater grab sample will be collected
following soil collection. The depth of standing groundwater will be measured with a
sounding meter. A temporary 0.75-inch diameter SCH 40 PVC casing with 0.010
machine slot will be place in the hole. The groundwater will be collected with a pre-
cleaned mini-bailer and carefully poured into laboratory-supplied acidified 40 ml vials for
volatile organic compounds. Amber liter bottles will be used to collect groundwater for
diesel analysis. The groundwater grab samples will be capped, labeled and placed in
