The set-up and installation of the SAIs and other equipment will be conducted utilizing guidelines
set forth under the Health and Safety Plan(HASP) Further details of these guidelines are presented
in the Site Health and Safety Section (see Section F)
E. SYSTEM CONSTRUCTION
Prior to initiating any construction activities at the site, an electronic line locator will be contracted
(hired) to assist in determining the location of any subsurface piping and/or utilities prior to
commencing any trenching activities In addition, all pertinent City of Stockton construction permits
will be obtained for the system installation
Piping and conduit for the AS and SVE wells will be installed in excavated trenches The
dimensions of the trenches will be 18 to 24 inches deep and 30 inches wide After sawcutthng
(and/or breaking) and removing any existing surface cover (concrete, asphalt, gravel, etc ), hand
digging will be utilized in any potentially sensitive areas of the site Any lines or piping which is
discovered during the hand digging will be flagged and painted a bright orange before proceeding
with any further excavation in that area
A layer of sand bedding (-3 inches) will be placed in the trenches prior to the installation of any
piping and/or conduit The conduits planned for the SVE operations will be installed in the bottom
of the trenches These conduits will be constructed with 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC Another
layer of bedding sand (-3 inches)will be placed above the SVE conduits to form a base for the AS
system piping A single air delivery line will be installed for each AS section The AS lines will
be constructed using 3/a-inch diameter steel piping
The remediation system equipment will be housed in the Remediation Equipment Compound The
compound will consist of a 10-ft by 30-ft pad constructed utilizing 6 inches of reinforced concrete
The compound will be enclosed by a 6-foot cedar-slat fence The compound will be accessible via
one walk-in gate (-4 feet across) and two wheeled, rolling gates for the maintenance of mayor
components, as necessary The location of the remediation equipment compound is presented on
Figures 9 and 10
A licensed electrician will attend to running the required electrical power to the remediation
equipment compound The electrician will also conduct all necessary wiring and hook-up of
remediation equipment For the most part, the equipment skid(s) will be pre-wired and will require
only one power connection at the control panel for proper operations In addition, various SIAs may
require some wiring based on the placement of the stand-alone equipment, such as vapor treatment
unit
V-6
