ri
02 May 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 01-0827
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance two soil probe'borings using direct push technology in the
northeast ofthe former northern UST area to evaluate the laterat extent ofthe petroleum hydrocarbon
impacts to soil and groundwater. The proposed probe boring locations many be modified due to
field observations or additional borings may be adva6ced with approval by the EHD.
Based on the petroleum hydrocarbon-impact to soil, AGE proposes soil boring in the following
locations:
• One boring will be advanced to a depth of, 40 feet bsg in the historical down-gradient
location of the former UST, at a distance of 50 feet northeast of well VW- d,.
One other soil borings may be advanced if a'significant field detection(©VM or odor) of
petroleum hydrocarbons area observed and documented. The second boring will be
advanced to a depth of 40 feet bsg in the hi8,'torical down-gradient location of the former
UST,at a distance of 90 feet north-northeast;of well VW-2d.
Grab ground water sample will be collected from these two soil borings a the current water table
4
level. Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervalsI beginning at 5 feet bsg extending to the total
probe boring depths.Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2;field procedures for
advancement of probe borings and collection of soil'samples are presented in Section 4.1.1.
Selected soil samples from each probe boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis with
concurrence of the EHD. The selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California
Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified, laboratory for the following constituents:
# Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as5 gasoline and diesel(TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
* Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX)in accordance with EPA Method
8020 or 8260; and
0 The fuel additives di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), methyl
tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA),
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and ethylene d&omide {EDB) in accordance with EPA
Method 8260 Modified.
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custodydoeu' mentation will be-presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
Advanced GeoEnvirdnmental,Inc.
