MEMO TO TECHNICAL STAFF
CLAIMANT: SUTTER OFFICE CENTER CLAIM NO: 017618
SITE: 242 SUTTER STN, STOCKTON
DATE: 11/24/03
FROM CLAIMS REVIEWER: Barbara Rempel
COMMENTS: Please review reports to determine if a release also occurred from the USTs that were
abandoned in place in 1960 & not just the USTs that were removed in 1980.
This site is located on the southwest corner of Miner and California in Stockton.
There are several addresses used for this site (448 E Miner Ave, 242 N Sutter St, 434 E Miner Ave, 434-448 E
Miner St).
A former service station operated four-550 gallon USTs from 1940s until 1960 at this site; these USTs were
abandoned in place in 1960 & filled with sand.
Standard Oil operated USTs at this site from late 1960s until closure of service station in December of 1980 &
the USTs associated with this fuel system were removed.
Sutter Office Center(claimant) acquired site in 11/82 along with the USTs abandoned in place in 1960. They
never owned or operated the USTs removed in 1980 so they would be ineligible for any cleanup costs, which
may be associated with these USTs.
The Maps show locations of both sets of USTs.
