PUBLIC TRANSIT <br /> ��dz('�a' <br /> -To support and encourage improved public transit service within <br /> San Joaquin County. <br /> -To increase the use of public transit by promoting land use <br /> policies which reduce the need for private motorized transportation. <br /> PUBLIC TRANSIT <br /> 1. The public transit system should benefit and provide for broad <br /> community need and desire, including non-users as well as users . <br /> 2 . Priority in designing public transit service shall be given to <br /> meeting the needs of those deprived of personal transportation, <br /> particularly senior citizens, the handicapped, and economically <br /> disadvantaged, and other non-drivers . <br /> 3 . Public transit service should be provided to major work centers, <br /> major shopping area:. , medical facilities, centers of government <br /> services, major cultural and recreational centers, college and <br /> university facilities , and to residential areas with large numbers <br /> of people with limited or no access to autcmobiles . <br /> 4. The development of activity centers shall be encouraged in <br /> order to facilitate the use and feasibility of public transit. <br /> S . The public transit system shall be designed to promote effective <br /> land use planning and to minimize adverse environmental impacts . <br /> 6. Public transit service should be provided between the cities <br /> of the County as desired and where economically feasible. <br /> 32 <br />
