Paint Department (D-24) SAF 09-65 Handling Hazardous Materials <br /> Paint Lid Closer An example of the Paint Lid Closer is shown below. <br /> example <br /> Used paint rags and To ensure proper management of used paint rags (paper towels) and paint <br /> paint sticks sticks, Paint Associates must do the following: <br /> Step Action <br /> 1 Call a designated HHM associate to set up the red metal can in the Paint <br /> Department.The Designated HMM Associate must call 3E for setup <br /> instructions. <br /> 2 The red metal can must be lined and labeled with a Hazardous Waste <br /> label and a decal that reads"Empty Daily". <br /> 3 The waste label must include the accumulation start date that reads <br /> "Empty Daily" instead of calendar date,per 3E instructions). <br /> 4 Place all used paint rags and paint sticks (latex and/or oil based)in the <br /> red metal can. <br /> 5 Close the red metal can tightly after every use. <br /> Used paint rags or paint sticks must never be placed in the municipal (general) <br /> trash.Used paint rags or paint sticks must be placed in the red metal can.Do not <br /> place any other type of waste in the red metal can other than used paint rags and <br /> paint sticks. <br /> Daily emptying of The red metal can must be emptied at least daily by the RTV Associate or,in <br /> the red metal can their absence,the MOD. If the red metal can fills up sooner than daily,notify the <br /> RTV Associate or,in their absence,the MOD,who will empty the red metal can <br /> immediately. <br /> Step Action <br /> 1 Remove the liner and its contents (used rags and paint sticks) from the <br /> red metal can and,whenever possible, tie a knot in the liner. <br /> 2 Take the liner and its contents back to the central storage area. <br /> 26 Revised:12 January 2007 <br />
