Paint Department (D-24) SAF 09-65 Handling Hazardous Materials <br /> Step Action <br /> 3 Locate the 30-gallon drum in the Black Zone used for waste paint rags <br /> and paint sticks; the label will indicate that ONLY paint wastes are <br /> placed in the bucket. If a drum does not exist for this waste,a <br /> designated HHM associate must call 3E and follow their instructions to <br /> set up a new drum. <br /> 4 Put on single-use gloves and goggles. <br /> 5 Place the liner and waste from the red metal can along with any <br /> contaminated PPE(such as,single-use gloves) in the 30-gallon drum. <br /> 6 Close the 30-gallon drum lid tightly prior to leaving the central storage <br /> area. <br /> 7 Return to the Paint Department and immediately re-line the Paint <br /> Department red metal can for the next day. <br /> Red metal can An example of a red metal can with its markings("Hazardous Waste" and <br /> example "Empty Every Night") is shown below. <br /> 3 <br /> Paint Tint Machine At the paint desk,machines are used to color paint with tint.These machines <br /> purging must be purged,or flushed out,on a daily basis.When a purge occurs,a small <br /> amount of tint may drip from the machine. Upon purging,a Paint Associate <br /> must do the following: <br /> ■ Use a paper towel to contain the drips. <br /> ■ Dispose of the used paper towel in the red metal can along with the other <br /> used paint rags and paint sticks. <br /> ■ If a paint tinter has purged or flushed due to operator error or malfunction, <br /> call a designated HHM associate for assistance. <br /> Revised: 12 January 2007 27 <br />
