M M
4) Inform each supplier that their product will not be released into inventory if there
is a missing MSDS or container label.
5) Document the steps taken with the manufacturer or distributor to secure the
missing MSDS and container label.
NOTE: If employees must purchase a hazardous material at the local hardware or
industrial supply store, they must notify the Department Manager and Safety Team
Leader and provide them with the appropriate MSDS. The employee purchasing the
hazardous material must also ensure that the container has an appropriate label.
Department Managers and Supervisors must also ensure that Outside Contractors
are informed of the following:
1) Each outside contractor must be aware of our written Hazardous Chemical
Safety Program plus the MSDS and container labeling requirements.
2) Each outside contractor must provide the Safety Team Leader with
documentation that they have a written Hazardous Chemical Safety Program if
they introduce hazardous materials on-site or during the contracting process.
They must also provide us with a copy of the MSDS related to the hazardous
material.
3) Each Outside Contractor must provide the above documentation when
requested; otherwise their services will be terminated.
4) Each Outside Contractor must receive a copy of Appendix F (Outside Contractor
Compliance) prior to beginning work on the site.
Labels and Hazard Warnings
Labels are designed to provide information to employees concerning the hazards of
various materials. Therefore, it is important that no hazardous materials be placed
in improperly labeled containers.
All containers will be labeled, and the label will be prominently displayed at all times.
The label must be written in English, and it must contain the same hazardous
material identity (product or trade name) as appears on the hazardous material
"master list" and MSDS.
2) All manufacturers' labels will be left on the containers.
3) At a minimum, each manufacturer's label must contain the following:
• Identification of the material in the container.
• Appropriate hazard warnings, such as health, fire and reactivity.
• Name and address of hazardous material manufacturer, distributor, or the
responsible party (applies only to manufacturers' labels).
4) In -plant bulk storage or secondary containers, plus containers with illegible
labels, will be labeled with:
• Product or trade name.
• The HMIS hazard ratings and recommended PPE.
Labeling Exceptions (containers which do not require labels)
