Managing Hazardous Waste, Continued <br />Fluorescent <br />Light Bulb <br />(Lamp) <br />Management <br />(continued) <br />© CVS/pharmacy <br />L <br />To manage used light bulbs until Sylvania is able to pick them up, follow the <br />steps below: <br />1 Remove new light bulbs from the box shipped to the store and save <br />the box. <br />2 Place used bulbs into the box. <br />3 Close box completely and seal. <br />4 Label box as "Universal Waste — Lamps," and include the date <br />when the first used bulb was placed in the box. <br />5 Find a safe storage area for the box so that the bulbs will not be <br />broken before Sylvania can pick up the box. <br />6 Any documentation provided by Sylvania at the time of service <br />must be kept in the EH&S Program Binder for at least 3 years. <br />If any loose used light bulbs are found in the store for any reason, follow the <br />steps below: <br />To manage broken fluorescent light bulbs, follow the steps below: <br />1 Leave the area and let it ventilate for 15 minutes <br />2 Avoid direct contact with broken light bulb debris. <br />3 Put on gloves. <br />4 Carefully scoop up fragments of the bulb with stiff cardboard and/or <br />duct tape. DO NOT use a vacuum or broom. <br />5 Wipe the area (including floor and store shelving) with damp paper <br />towels or wet wipes. <br />6 Remove any carpet tiles that may contain debris. <br />7 Place everything (bulb fragments, gloves, wipes, carpet tiles, etc.) <br />into a StrongPak self-sealing bag. <br />g Seal bag and label as "Broken Lamp." <br />9 Place the sealed StrongPak bag into the StrongPak Universal <br />Waste (UW) container. <br />10 Wash your hands. <br />26 <br />CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS INFORMATION <br />CVS000010387 <br />
