Photo Waste Handling <br />Overview <br />Used Photo <br />Chemical <br />Filters <br />There are many Photo lab waste materials that require specific handling due <br />to the nature of the materials. The next few sections will discuss how to <br />properly handle each of these photo materials. <br />Used photo chemical filters must not be rinsed in sinks or disposed of in the <br />trash. During weekly filter change -outs, ALL chemical filters must be handled <br />following the process below: <br />Expired Photo Containers of expired photo chemical concentrates must not be poured down <br />Chemical the drain, thrown in the trash or placed in the PSC poly drum or Silver <br />Concentrates Recovery Unit (SRU). These items must be collected, bagged separately in <br />StrongPak self-sealing bags and added to the StrongPak "PHOTO" <br />container. <br />Mixed, <br />Unusable <br />Photo <br />Processing <br />Chemicals <br />© CVS/pharmacy <br />NOTE: California stores only - You must consult the "Unused Photo <br />Chemical Handling Guide - California" to determine the appropriate container <br />for each bagged item. <br />Mixed, unusable photo processing chemicals must not be poured down the <br />drain or into the SRU. These chemicals must be handled following the <br />process below: <br />Action <br />1 <br />Drain filters in place prior to removal from machine. <br />2 <br />Once drained, place filters in a large StrongPak self-sealing bag. <br />3 <br />Add paper towels or absorbent to the bag to soak up any liquid that <br />may leak from the filters. <br />4 <br />Seal the bag completely. <br />5 <br />Place the sealed bag into a second StrongPak self-sealing bag. <br />6 <br />Seal the second bag completely. <br />7 <br />Place double -bagged filters in the StrongPak "PHOTO" container. <br />Expired Photo Containers of expired photo chemical concentrates must not be poured down <br />Chemical the drain, thrown in the trash or placed in the PSC poly drum or Silver <br />Concentrates Recovery Unit (SRU).
