Soil disposal methods
vary with the concentration of total hydrocarbons.
a. Any soil tested to contain less than 50 ppm total hydrocarbons is non-
hazardous and may be used as backfill for the excavation.
b. Those soils containing between 50-1000 ppm total hydrocarbons are
treatable hazardous wastes. Treatment will consist of piling the soil in
windrows to allow evaporation of the hydrocarbons to achieve a level less
than 50 ppm. This must be accomplished in accordance with San Joaquin
Department of Health Services. Notify the Contracting Officer and the San
Joaquin Department of Health Services at least 24 hours prior to the
spreading or heating of any contaminated soil.
