Contractor Instructions
November 11, 2007
Page 2 of 6 10ta
iota® Pre-Testing
Pre-testing with iota greatly reduces the possibility of expensive excavation and repair
costs if any buried portion of the fueling system fails during the final test. It's important
that you specifically use the iota pre test because during the iota pre test lower leak rate
thresholds are used to further insure that the system passes the VaporTite final test with
flying colors. If another helium method is being used, we can't be sure what thresholds
are being used or if they'll meet the iota leak rate testing standards.
Although the iota test method tests only the primary containment portion of the system,
we also recommend that you strongly consider testing the secondary containment as
well prior to backfilling. The primary goal of pre-testing is to identify any leaks in the
system that will not be in an area where they can't be readily repaired (ie buried piping).
iota pre-testing usually takes between one and two days, for an average 2-3 tank site.
The following checklist should be followed by the contractor in order to allow for
effective testing:
Jere-Test Site Preparation Requirements — to be completed by the installation
contractor prior to iota test crew arrival.
O Avoid scheduling conflicts during pretests
dates. i.e. fire marshal/local regulator `
O Piping will be exposed — not backfilled, ' ;7
no concrete poured.
O Primary and secondary lines must be
glued properly and terminated in sumps, M
7
UDC's and other transition sumps.
4 NY m
o Hydrostatic monitoring fluid should not `
be in the piping interstice at the time of
pre-testing (if applicable).
O Flex connections installed
O No primary containment fittings exposed
directly to backfill material (unused tank
bungs and or risers should be in sump containment only)
O Tank risers, buckets, ATG caps and adapters installed
O Ball float removed and plugged with extractor fitting
O iota test setups must be installed into piping at each secondary termination point
after a ball valve iotaTestSetup.pdf. Test setups and ball valves must installed by
the contractor prior }o CGRS' arrival to perform the pre and final test. The test
setups may be mounted under the dispenser and left in the system or removed
and reused by the contractor for future projects. Initially your test setups should
be purchased from CGRS to insure that you are using the correct fittings.
O Ball valves at each primary termination point with male air fitting to include line
test port at pump
