Accreditation Manual For Hospitals, Standard PL 1.6 <br />GENERAL INFORMATION <br />- --V <br />This procedure establishes guidelines for the safe handling and <br />reporting of a release or threatened release of hazardous materials <br />at San Joaquin General Hospital that may pose a present or <br />potential hazard to human health and safety, property or the <br />environment. <br />The hospital maintains the "Comprehensive Hospital Hazardous <br />Materials Program" in the Administrative office and the Plant <br />Maintenance office. The Plant Maintenance office also maintains <br />the Hospital Business Emergency Plan as required by the County <br />Office of Emeroency Services. <br />Both of these plans describe in detail how the hospital Hazardous <br />Materials response teams are coordinated to mitigate spills and <br />disposal of excess or no longer used hazardous materials. <br />POLICY <br />1. The hospital will maintain a hazardous spill team, trained <br />and available for cleanup of small spills of hazardous <br />materials and disposal of hazardous materials. <br />2. Responsibility for the administration of this policy is <br />through the Hospital Plant Maintenance Department. The <br />Hospital Plant Manager functions as the Hazardous Materials <br />Coordinator and, as such, supervises and trains personnel to <br />respond to hazardous materials incidents. <br />RESPONSIBILITIES <br />The Hazardous Material Coordinator has been designated as the <br />person in charge of any hazardous material release or threatened <br />release at this facility.
