0
PLC-5000 Site Controller, LD-2000 and LD-2000 PLC
4.0 Description of the Testing Location
The Vaporless system was evaluated at the Fuels Management Research Center which
is located in Grain Valley, Missouri and operated by Ken Wilcox Associates, Inc. All line
tests were conducted using regular unleaded gasoline. The full evaluation was
conducted on a 3.25 inch diameter, 200 ft. long fiberglass line. The capacity of the line
is 86 gallons. The bulk modulus, which is a measure of the "stretch" which occurs
when the line is pressurized, is 34,443 psi, which is within the guidelines specified by
the EPA protocol. Abbreviated testing was conducted on a 215 ft. long flexible pipeline
with a total volume of 19.7 gallons. The bulk modulus of the flexible pipeline is 4,485
psi.
The conditioned product is contained in a 600 gallon steel tank which is equipped with a
standard Red Jacket pump. Product is heated or cooled in the tank by circulating glycol
and product through an external heat exchanger. Soil temperatures were monitored at
approximately the mid distance between the tank and the dispenser. RTI)s were
located at 2 inches, 4 inches and 12 inches from the line as specified by the protocol. A
single temperature probe was located 4 inches from the bottom of the product
conditioning tank. The weighted soil temperature and the product tank temperature at
the beginning of the test were used to compute the temperature differential.
Page 5
