9.1.4 Safety Equipment
A first aid kit containing first aid items for minor incidents only and a fire
extinguisher is maintained in each ERM vehicle. First aid kits will be
inspected annually during the month of January to ensure adherence to
ANSI standard Z308.1-1998. Any items determined to be missing will be
replaced. First aid kits and fire extinguishers are also located in the field
office trailer. In addition, each piece of heavy equipment will have a fire
extinguisher on board. The FSO will be responsible for ensuring that all fire
extinguishers are inspected monthly as required by 29 CFR 1910.157
Portable Fire Extinguishers. The monthly inspections will be documented
on a tag attached to each extinguisher or a master list of fire extinguishers
and their locations. If the duration of the project exceeds 1 year, the FSO
will contract with an outside vendor to perform the annual maintenance on
all fire extinguishers.
Eye wash stations will be located at the following designated locations:
® Field office trailer
• Field vehicle (portable unit)
Eye wash station operation will be checked monthly. If a problem is
identified, that problem will be corrected immediately (e.g., portable
eyewash station low on solution). If not immediately correctable, the
eyewash station will be bagged and the HSC will be notified. The HSC
will then inform the project team and take steps to correct the problem in
a timely manner.
9.1.5 Communications
Telephones and two-way portable radios will be used for communication
between the project team and the client. Cell phones may be used as part
of the communication method. However, cell phones cannot be used
while operating any type of vehicle or equipment.
9.2 SITE CONTROL
9.2.1 Site Work Zones
Since there are many different site activities, site work zones will differ
depending on work activity. As work activities change, work areas such
as exclusion zones and support zones will be established, as necessary,
and clearly demarcated with fencing or barricades.
ERM 9-2 DEERE/129740-9/29/2011
