10.0 DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES <br /> Decontamination involves the orderly controlled removal of contaminants <br /> from both personnel and equipment. The purpose of decontamination <br /> procedures is to prevent the spreading of contaminated materials into <br /> uncontaminated areas. All site personnel should limit contact with <br /> contaminated soil, groundwater, or equipment in order to reduce the need <br /> for extensive decontamination. <br /> Equipment and materials used in the decontamination process may <br /> include the following: <br /> • High pressure/hot water cleaning using only potable water/fire <br /> water; <br /> • Phosphate-free detergent; <br /> • Five-gallon bucket; <br /> • Potable water; <br /> • Distilled water; <br /> ® Paper towels; and <br /> • Brushes. <br /> 10.1 PERSONNEL DECONTAMINATION <br /> The following procedures will be used for personnel decontamination: <br /> 1. Clean rubber boots with water; <br /> 2. Remove all PPE and dispose of the PPE in the designated drums;and <br /> 3. Wash hands and any skin that may have come in contact with affected <br /> soil or groundwater with moistened disposable towels, such as baby <br /> wipes,or soap and water. <br /> 10.2 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION <br /> The following will be required for equipment and tool decontamination: <br /> • Before leaving the work area, excess contamination will be removed <br /> from the equipment and tools and placed in approved,properly <br /> labeled containers. <br /> ERM 10-1 DEERE/129740-9/29/2011 <br />
