Winslow Property
Page No. 3
Water was sampled from the on-site well on the proposed Parcel
2 on May 28, 1996 and tested for the presence of nitrates and
dibromochloropropane (DBCP) . Test results indicated that DBCP was
non-detected but the level of nitrate was 89 mg/1, which is well
above the Maximum Contaminate Level (MCL) of 45 mg/l. A copy of
the test results is included in the Appendix.
VI . SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Two test holes were excavated to a depth of 10 feet near each
of the existing septic systems in order to determine the soil
profile in the general area. For approximate location of the test
holes (PT) see the Location Map in the Appendix. The soil profile
holes were logged by an engineer and a description of the soils
encountered in each hole is contained in the Appendix. The surface
soils consisted of a brown silty fine to medium sand. The surface
soils were underlain by a slightly cemented layer of sandy silt at
a depth of 6 feet, which in turn was underlain by a brown silty
sand. For a more detailed description of the soils encountered see
the log of test holes.
Shallow (36" deep) percolation tests were performed at each of
the test hole locations. Ten to eleven inch diameter holes were
excavated and 2 inches of gravel placed in the bottom of each hole.
Two and three-inch diameter perforated pipes were then placed and
backfilled with gravel. Each of the test holes was filled with
water 24 hours prior to running the tests. The last half hour of
test readings were witnessed by a county health official and the
test data obtained is enclosed in the appendix. The percolation
rates have been adjusted to account for the gravel and pipe
backfill. Calculations for adjustments are on the test data
sheets.
A summary of the test results is presented next:
Diameter of Depth of
Test No. Hole (in. ) Hole Adj . Perc.
