F:\projcct\2Ca-475\cxwk P1
accurate and can be- validated. The OA/AC program will address equipment
decontamination and calibration procedures and sample validation.
Equipment Decontamination- Before the start of drilling activities, ESE or the driller will
decontaminate the equipment that will be inserted in the well bore or the well casing. The
driller will decontaminate drilling equipment, such as auger flights and tools, by steam
cleaning before starting field work. During drilling, the driller or ESE field geologist will
decontaminate the standard penetration sampler and brass liners by washing in a tri-sodium
phosphate(TSP)solution and triple rinsing,in potable water, methanol and distilled water.
ESE will decontaminate bailers used to sample ground water using the same procedure.
Equipment used for non-intrusive activities, such as water level probes, will be rinsed in
distilled water between readings in wells. Decontamination procedures will be recorded
in a Field Log.
Equipment Calibration-ESE will calibrate equipment to be used for measuring ground-
rl meter and specific conductance meter. Calibration
water quality parameters,such as p
results will be recorded in a Water Sample field log.
Sample Validation-ESE will su'umit one duplicate ground-water sample, one equipment
rinsate sample and a trip blank sample for analysis. The object of the duplicate sample is
to test the replicability of ESE's sampling method and of the analytical laboratory results.
The object of the rinsate sample is to test ESE"s decontamination procedures. The object
of the trip blank sample is to test for the possibility of environmental contamination of the
samples during transport.
ESE will take a duplicate sample from one of the three monitoring wells, at the discretion
of ESE field personnel. ESE will take a rinsate sample from the final distilled water rinse
used for decontaminating the sampling bailer. The trip blank will be prepared and
provided by the analytical laboratory, to accompany the container with all sample bottles
9
