07/22/2002 16:10 2094 AGE STOCKTON PAGE 04
07 May 2002
AGE-NC Project No, 98-0466
• Notify AM&M 48 hours prior to field work to obtain clearance for boring locations with
regard to underground structures or utility lines.
• Notify EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of field work to schedule grout inspection.
• Notify RWQCB 48 hours prior to comtnencemcnt of field work 10 schedule inspection.
5.2, PROBE BORING ADVANCEMENT
Soil borings advanced for collection of`grab' ground water samples will be advanced utilizing a
truck-mounted,hollow-stem drill rig and 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers;the three shallow soil
borings proposed within the former teepee incinerator pit will be advanced utilizing `direct-push'
techniques. Cuttings generated during drilling will be placed on plastic sheeting and covered with
plastic sheeting. Rinseate will be containerized in properly labeled DOT roved 55-gallon drums,
and stored on-site in an area lacking public access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated based on
results of soil and water analysis. To properly abandon the soil borings, each boring will be
backfilled to surface grade with portland cement utilizing a tremmie pipe
5.3. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
Soil samples will be collected from probe borings advanced utilizing the bollow-stem auger rig as
described in Section 4.3 of the AGE-prepared Site Contamination Work Plan, dated 11 September
2001.
5.3.1. Former Teepee Structure Incinerator Pit
Probe borings will be advanced using a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push probing unit
equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. The Geoprobe advances soil probe borings using a hydraulic
hammer to drive soil sampling tools to specified depths.
Soil will be sampled from the three `direct-push' borings at 5-foot intervals beginning at 5 feet bsg
using a 1.125" Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with four six-inch brass sleeves. Upon
sample retrieval, the ends of the second sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed
with tape. Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring designation, depth, time, date and
sampler's initials. Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container on
ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a DHS-c rtified laboratory. Soils
encountered in the borings will be visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance with the
Unified Soil Classification System(USCS). Additionally, soil samples wi be field-screened for the
presence of volatile organic compounds using an OVM.
Advanced GeoEnviron utal,Inc.
