Stockpile Soil Sample Collection
Discrete soil samples will be collected from soil stockpiles by digging approximately one foot into
the soil stockpile and collecting a soil sample in a 2-inch by 6-inch metal sleeve by pressing the
sampling sleeve into the soil by hand or using a metric sampler with a drive hammer,
Soil samples will be collected from the stockpile at a minimum, frequency of one discrete soil sample
for every 100 cubic yards of soil.Approximately 2,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil is contained
in the stockpiles requiring a minimum of 20 soil stockpile samples to be submitted for laboratory
analysis. It is anticipated that 10 soil samples will be collected from 5oil piles generated during
excavation of the north bum pits, 6 soil samples from soil piles generated during excavation of the
south bum pits and 4 soil samples from soil piles generated during exca iation of the former teepee
structure. The collected soil sleeve will be preserved and labeled as d cribed in 4.3.1 above, but
with a unique sampling locality designation. The preserved samples will be stored in a chilled
container pending shipment to a DHS-approved analytical laboratory urIder chain of custody.
5.4. COLLECTION OF GRAl3 GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Grab groundwater samples will be collected as described in Section 4. of the AGE-prepared Site
Contamination Work Plan, dated 11 September 2001.
6.0. QUALITY ASSURANCY AND QUALITY CONTROL
To ensure that data collected is of adequate quality, AGE will take the f9llowing measures:
• All field personnel will be adequately trained in the proper collection techniques for the type
of samples to be collected and the type of analyses required. In addition, all field personnel
will have completed a 40-hour Health and Safety Course as specified in OSHA,Hazardous
Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard [29 CFR 1910.120(e)], and 8-hour
annual refresher courses as necessary.
• Analytical laboratories selected to provide samples analyses will be certified by the
California Department of Health Services for the analytical services provided.
• Field logs will be maintained for all field activities, including documentation of sample
collection, description of sampling activity and rational for variation from this work plan,
sampling methodology used, equipment calibration data, personnel involved in field work,
all field measurements, relevant environmental conditions, and any other pertinent data that
may affect data quality.
• Samples will be preserved in the field as described in this work pl n in Sections 4.3 and 4.4.
Adumced GeoEnslromme EA Ino.
