1
29 January 2002
' AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
Page 3 of 25
' property. Figure 2 illustrates background soil sample locations. Table 1 contains background levels
for metals in soil at the site.
' In 1987, D&M completed a Phase I Site Assessment of the subject site AGE has not reviewed the
Phase 1, presumably prepared for AFPC, but the D&M-prepared report Phase II Investigation,
' American Moulding and Millwork, Stockton, California,dated 25 February 1987, cited the potential
environmental concerns identified in the Phase I as listed below. D&M also issued Site Remediation
Report, Former American Forest Products Facility, 2801 West Lane, Stockton, California, dated
' May 1992, reporting on remedial and monitoring activities on the south portion of the site.
Review of the above documents revealed the following environmental c oncerns on the subject site:
' • Fifteen variously defined `underground storage tanks' formerly located on the site utilized
to store hazardous materials and wastes;
' • Use and storage of-pentachlorophenol (PCP), a wood preservative; locally soil was
encountered that had been impacted by the PCP;
• An area utilized for, and potentially impacted by, a steam cleaning operation;
• Septic tanks that potentially received hazardous materials;
• Several`wash-down' areas that potentially introduced hazardous materials to the subsurface;
• Storm water retention basins that may have received hazardous materials in runoff;
• Electrical transformers thought to contain polychlorinated bipht nols (PCBs);
• Hazardous materials storage area(s); and
' • Two former burn pits and a former teepee structure incinerator.
' The USTs have either been removed from the site, are actually sumps, or are the responsibility of
a third party. The PHS-EHD has no open or pending UST sites on the site and the RWQCB indicated
at a 31 July 2001 meeting with AGE personnel that the former USTs on the site pose no concerns
at this point in time. The tank uses, capacities, removal histories and investigations were presented
with all available information in the AGE-prepared Site Environmental istory dated 04 May 2001
which has been submitted to the RWQCB.
' The electrical transformer contents have been tested and labeled and are not considered a potential
' threat to ground water. The remaining potential concerns have been invertigatedas descnbedbelow.
t
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
