1
7.0 SUMMARY OF RESULTS
7.1 POTENTIAL SOURCES OF CONTAMINATION
Based on this Phase I (PSA) in appears that the potential for subsurface contamination exists
in Audit area 1II. Potential contamination sources include: existing coal and petroleum coke stockpiles,
former copper concentrate stockpiles, the drum storage area, and the fueling area (above ground diesel
tanks). The following section summarizes our findings.
Geology/Hydrology
Soils at the subject site typically consist of loose sandy material to approximately 5 feet bgs
underlain by stiff clayey material. First groundwater occurs at a depth of approximately 6 feet.
Agency Review
Six facilities were found on agency lists within a 1/2-mile radius. Specific information
regarding the extent of contamination at the facilities was not well documented based on our file search,
except for the considerable subsurface contamination of the Port of Stockton fuel terminal.
Site Reconnaissance
Our reconnaissance of Audit area III revealed that the site is developed as a bulk materials
distribution facility. Coal and petroleum coke stockpiles were observed during our visit of the facility.
Evidence of a former copper concentrate stockpile was also observed. The facility includes areas for
drum storage and fueling. The primary material stored in drums appears to be hydraulic oil. Diesel is
the primary fuel stored on site.
PSA04.007 13
