2.0 PROPOSED SAMPLING AREAS
The storm water sampling is designed to evaluate storm water quality from
areas which had been used for treated wood storage prior to extensive South
Yard cleanup efforts completed in 1987. The proposed storm water sampling
areas, the existing patterns of South Yard runoff, and the limits of
previous wood storage areas are illustrated on Figure 1. Although the
South Yard is relatively flat, existing storm water runoff drainage
patterns can be used to define segregated runoff areas.
3.0 SAMPLING PROCEDURES
3.1 STORM WATER SAMPLING
Storm water runoff will be collected during the initial stages of a
rainfall event. Prior to an anticipated rainfall event, the catch basins
within the sampling areas will be covered with an impervious material to
minimize leakage. After rainfall has ponded within the sampling areas ,
grab samples will be collected from four equally spaced discrete locations
within each sampling area. The storm water samples will be collected in
clean, one liter polyethylene bottles . The discrete samples for each area
will be composited in the laboratory to form one sample for each area.
After sampling, the ponded storm water will be released for drainage from
the yard.
3.2 INTERNAL QUALITY CONTROL
Duplicates, trip blanks, and background samples will be used to monitor
quality control of field sampling and laboratory analysis procedures.
General guidelines for internal quality control both in the field and in
the laboratory are presented in Section 4.3.2.1 of the Current Work Plan.
Applicable sections of the Current Work Plan have been included as an
appendix to this scope of work for reference.
2
