L
Wells Fargo Bank, Stockton Branch
September 6, 1996
Page 7
Utility Survey
Consultant shall retain the services of Underground Service Agent (USA) and of a private
underground utility locator to mask the approximate locations of subsurface objects such as
gasolines, electrical conduits sewer and water pipes.
Soil Boring and Sampling
A total of three (3) boreholes will be drilled using a drill rig equipped with 8-inch augers
equipment to depths extending ten (10) feet into the aquifer, 70 feet bgs or auger refusal,
whichever occurs first. The proposed boring locations are:
• Boring B 1 shall be along East Market Street and along the south wall of the bank
building. According to the historic Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps, this boring
location is near to the former UST location. The results of the geophysical survey /
could affect the location of this boring. +✓
• Boring B2 shall be at the northwest corner of the intersection of East Market Street
and South Wilson Way, adjacent to the bank buildings.
• Boring B3 shall be on the northwest portion of the Wells Fargo parking lot.
All boring locations shall be on land owned by Wells Fargo Bank. The boring locations
are illustrated on Figure 1. Should space restrictions cause the moving of boring locations
onto the sidewalk or street, additional permits will be required.
Soil samples will be collected from each borehole at 1.5 feet bgs, and thereafter at five-foot
intervals starting at a depth of five (5) feet bgs. Fifteen (15) soil samples will be collected
per boring for a total of 60 soil samples for this project. The soil samples will be collected
in brass tubes, sealed with Teflon tape, labeled and recorded, and placed on ice for
shipment to a state-approved laboratory. For the purpose of this proposal Consultant has
included the analysis of the (10) soil samples. If soil contamination is indicated by the
analytical results, further analyses of additional soil samples could be required. The cost of
these additional analyses is not included in this cost estimate.
All soil samples will be screened in the field for VOCs using portable vapor detection
equipment such as a photoionization detector(PID). The PID readings will be recorded on
the boring log by a Registered Geologist. Based on the PID readings and on field
observations, the geologist will select soil samples for the laboratory analysis.
Soil samples and drill spoils will be examined by the on-site geologist. Boring logs will be
prepared in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
Monitoring Well Installation
w
All three (3), eight-inch diameter soil borings will be converted to permanent, four-inch
diameter monitoring wells in accordance with the requirements of the California Department
of Water Resources and the SJCEHD. The well will consist of approximately ten (10) feet
of slotted well screen and sixty (60) feet of solid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe. Well
screen size will be dependent on formation material. An appropriately graded sand
