Wells Fargo Bank, Stockton Branch
September 6, 1996
Page 8
(depending on grain size distribution in the saturated interval) will be used as a filter
medium around the screened interval, and completed to an equivalent depth of one inch
above the well screen.
The remaining annulus will be backfilled with a cement/bentonite grout slurry with 3%
bentonite added from the seal to the surface vault. A locking well head will be installed,
and a watertight surface vault will be placed at-grade for well security.
Well Development and Sampling
The monitoring wells will be allowed to stabilize for at least 48 hours prior to development.
The wells will be developed utilizing surging and bailing techniques until the produced
water is relatively free of sediment and the water parameters pH, temperature and
conductivity have stabilized. The water parameters will be measured prior to development,
and then every 1/4 to 1/2 casing volume during development. For purposes of this
proposal, we have assumed that approximately three casing volumes will be removed.
Development tools will be steam cleaned prior to use in each monitoring well.
Groundwater from the monitoring wells will be sampled following development using pre-
cleaned, dedicated bailers. Groundwater samples will be placed in pre-cleaned 40 ml glass
VOA vials fitted with Teflon septa. Each vial will be labeled and kept cool in an ice chest
—' until delivery to a state certified laboratory.
Groundwater and decontamination rinsate produced during well development will be placed
in labeled 55-gallon drums and stored on-site. The water will subsequently be disposed of
by methods required by the State of California and the candidate disposal facilities.
Consultant will advise the property owner in making arrangements for sampling, chemical
analyses and disposal of the water.
Consultant shall retain the services of a certified land-surveyor to measure the surface
elevations of the wells and the depth to groundwater.
Laboratory Analysis
Approximately 60 soil samples and three groundwater samples will be delivered in ice-
containers, with chain-of-custody documentation, to BC Analytical, Inc., a State of
California approved laboratory. Approximately 50 samples will be placed on hold, and ten
soil samples, as marked by the field geologist, will be submitted for analyses. Soil
samples will be analyzed for TPH (simulated distillation) and for BTEX using EPA Method
8015M/8010. Groundwater samples and duplicate will be analyzed for VOCs using EPA
Method 8240 and for TPH (sim. dist.) using EPA Method 8015M.
Trip-blank samples and the collection of duplicate groundwater samples will provide
quality control (QC) of the field and laboratory procedures. Trip-blanks will only be
analyzed if the analytical results are suspect. One"blind"duplicate sample will be collected
and submitted for analyses.
aI
