1
indicated that shallow Site soils were impacted by nitrates and total petroleum hydrocarbons
Work performed by Kennedy/Jenks at the Site is summarized below
Preliminary Site Investigation Kennedy/Jenks performed a Preliminary Site Investigation of
' the Cal-Farm Supply facility in April and May 1989 Two soil borings (B-1 and B-2) and four
groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 , MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4) were installed at the Site as
part of the investigation (See Figure 3 for well locations) Soil and groundwater samples
' collected from the soil boring (B-1) and monitoring well (MW-1) installed in the vicinity of the
1 ,000-gallon UST indicated that soil and groundwater in the vicinity of the tank were
impacted by total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and benzene, xylenes, ethylbenzene and
' xylenes (BTEX) Water surface elevation data collected from the monitoring wells indicated
the direction of groundwater flow beneath the Site was to the northeast The downgradient
extent of impacted groundwater was not determined during the Preliminary Site
Investigation
The results of this investigation are summarized in our 14 July 1989 report titled Preliminary
' Site Investigation Report Cal-Farm Supply Stockton Facility Closure of the UST was
recommended in this report
' Site Remediation Workplan At the request of the Bankruptcy Trustee for Cal-Farm Supply,
Kennedy/Jenks prepared a work plan for closure of the Cal-Farm Supply facility The 13
October 1989 work plan, Site Remediation Work Plan Cal-Farm Sunply Stockton Facility,
identified work tasks for completing Site investigations (including additional groundwater
monitoring) and for remediation activities (including removal of the UST) This work plan
was reviewed and approved by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB) and the PHS/EHD
' Phase II Site Investigation
Kennedy/Jenks performed a Phase 11 Site Investigation from
December 1989 through June 1990 The investigation was conducted as described in our
' 13 October Work Plan and included the installation and sampling of one groundwater
monitoring well, MW-5, located in the downgradient direction of the UST and monitoring well
MW-1 Well MW-5 was installed to evaluate if chemicals of concern previously detected in
well MW-1 had migrated downgradient Groundwater samples collected from Site monitoring
wells during this investigation indicated the presence of low concentrations of TPH as
gasoline (TPH-G) and diesel (TPH-D), and BTEX in only well, MW-1 , located in the vicinity of
' the UST The results of this investigation are summarized in our June 1991 report titled
Phase Il Investigation and Site Closure Report, Cal-Farm Supply Stockton Facility The
closure of the UST is also described in the above report and is summarized in the following
section
Underground Storage Tank Removal
The 1,000-gallon diesel UST was removed by Peregren Environmental Group Inc from the
Site on 19 April 1990 Prior to removing the UST approximately 55 gallons of fluid
' remaining in the tank were pumped out, and transported under a Uniform Hazardous Waste
92264000 2 92254000
04/26194 2 28pm
