of soil contamination and to provide access for site remediation Boring B5 was installed
adjacent to the northern end of the eastern pump island to determine if these soils-contained
hydrocarbons All drilling was performed using a hollow stem auger drill ng Drilling
procedures are presented in Appendix C
The groundwater monitoring wells were installed to 90 feet bgs and are constructed of 2-inch
diameter PVC Wells MW3R, MW4, and MW6 were screened from total depth to
o
approximately 65 feet bgs Well MW5 was screened from total depth to 20 feet bgs to allow
access for future remediation of the sediments in this area which showed obvious signs of
hydrocarbon impacts Vadose wells VW1 and VW2 were installed to 50 feet below grade with
2-inch diameter PVC and were screened from total depth to 15 feet below grade The filter pack
for each well consisted of#3 Monterey sand The wells were sealed with approximately 2 feet
of bentonite pellets on top of the sand pack and were grouted from the top of the seal to the
surface with neat cement using the tremmie method Each well is covered with a traffic-rated
vault and sealed with a watertight locking cap Further details on drilling and well construction
rprocedures are presented in Appendix C The permits for well installation from the PHS/EHD
are included as Appendix B Further details on well construction specifications are presented
in the drilling logs
SOEL ANALYSES
During drilling of each borehole, soil samples were collected at five-foot intervals for geologic
logging and laboratory analysis Soil samples were screened in the field for hydrocarbon
emissions using an organic vapor analyzer (OVA), however, the OVA was not functional for
every borehole, as indicated in the logs Based on the OVA readings and visual/olfactory
observations, 51 soil samples were selected for laboratory analysis of TPH and BTEX by EPA
method 8015/8020 The samples were analyzed by American Analytics of Chatsworth,
California, a state certified laboratory. Procedures used for soil sampling are presented in
Appendix C
Page 4
