Coca-Cola Enterprises - West
. Job No. 90054
Two steel USTs formerly existed at the site; one 10,000-gallon diesel UST and one 1,000-gallon
gasoline UST. The diesel UST was reportedly installed m 1978 and the gasoline UST was
installed in 1937. The site conditions at the time of USTEC's assessment including the location
of the buildings, the former USTs, pnaduct delivery piping, vent piping, and fuel dispensers are
presented on Figure 2.
i:..; 2.2 PROJECT BACKGROUND
CCE-W moved from their facility at 1100 Wilson Way in April, 1990. The USTs were removed
as part of the abandonment procedures for the site. The excavation and removal of the 10,000-
gallon and 1,000-gallon USTs, fuel dispensers, product delivery, and vent pipes was completed
{" by Crisp Construction of Visalia, California, on April 19, 1990. All work was completed under
the supervision of Quinn and Quinn Enterprises,Inc.,also of Visalia, California. Environmental
. support for the tank removal was provided by USTEC.
sa.
During the removal operations USTEC personnel collected a total of four soil samples. One
soil sample was collected at a depth of 2 feet below the tank invert at each end of both USTs.
Samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons MPH) in accordance with
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) method 8015 modified for diesel and gasoline. In
addition, samples were analyzed for the aromatic hydrocarbons benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and xylenes (BTEX) in accordance with EPA method 8020.
V'4 Based on field work and analytical chemistry results, concentrations of diesel and gasoline were
+ found to be present in the soils in concentrations above State of California recommended clean-
up levels (100 parts per million TPH) in the 1,000-gallon UST excavation. The results of this
investigation were presented to Public Health Services, San Joaquin County, Environmental
Health Division, in a Preliminary Underground Storage Tank Investigation Report (Appendix
A).
