containers are provided to clients with the appropriate
preservatives as part of the analytical process.
Sample Collection
Sequoia collects samples under the direction of the client or
the regulating authority. Equipment is checked-out before
each use to ensure proper function. Field instruments are
calibrated in the laboratory before each sampling event.
Check-outs and calibrations are kept in a log book for an
accurate record of performance.
Cross contamination is a frequent hazard during sampling.
Strict cleaning procedures for equipment are posted and
observed. Appropriate sample containers, temporary storage
coolers, sampling devices, and personal safety gear are
assembled to ensure that all gear has been adequately cleaned
from the previous sampling job. similarly, if multiple
samples are to be taken with the same device, the device is
thoroughly cleaned between samples. With the exception of
bioassay Jugs, sample containers are never reused. The
bioassay jugs are scrupulously cleaned to ensure no carry .
over from previous samples.
Clear protocols are posted and observed for the appropriate
use of all sampling equipment and the proper use of all
_. sample containers to ensure that all samples are preserved
and stored in accordance with the Federal Register, October
26, 1984, Table II and SW-846 Revision 1 December 1987
(Figure 5 and 6) , and SW-846 revision 1 1987. Samples
brought to Sequoia by clients who have done their own
sampling, are appropriately preserved and stored upon
arrival.
CHAIN OF CUSTODY
The chain of custody is the documented history of any sample.
It begins at the sample site with the sampling personnel and
continues on with the sample through transport to the;
laboratory where it is received and stored under the custody
Of the laboratory.
