6.5 Refueling Equipment
Refueling equipment (generators and compressors) may be necessary Engines
will be allowed to cool 3 to 5 minutes before adding fuel, and care will be taken not to overfill
fuel tanks If a spill should occur, the excess fuel will be removed with non-spark-producing
tools/equipment before restarting the engine Chemical-resistant gloves will be used when
handling fuel To minimize the potential for sample contamination, all vehicles and equipment
will be refueled after the close of daily sampling activities whenever possible
6.6 Generators
Electric generators will be operated with caution, as they pose a hazard for
potential electric shock All generators will be properly grounded Ground fault circuit
interrupters will be connected to all energized circuits intended for outdoor use In case of an
equipment-related emergency, high-voltage gloves will be used to operate or shut down the
equipment
6.7 Rig Safety Guidelines
Drilling rig maintenance and safety is the responsibility of the drilling operator
The following are provided as general guidelines for safe practices on the site
Do not consume or store food or beverages in the operational areas,
• Inspect the route of travel before moving the drill rig off road Note rocks,
trees, erosion, uneven surfaces and utilities,
• Remove all passengers from the cab before moving the drill rig onto rough
or sloped terrain,
• Engage multiple-drive power trains (when available) on the rig vehicle
. when mobilizing off road,
• Travel directly up or down grade on slopes when feasible Avoid off-
camber or traverse approaches to drill sites,
6-3
